The Anointing of the Sick (formerly often called Extreme Unction) is one of the seven Sacraments of the New Testament, instituted by Christ and taught in Scripture and Tradition. It is alluded to in Mark and recommended by Saint James: believers who are ill should call for the elders of the Church, who anoint with oil and pray, so that the sick person may be saved and forgiven.
