Holy Days and Memorials

  1. St. John Eudes was born in Normandy, France, in 1601. He became a priest in 1625 and devoted his life to preaching and serving the Church.
  2. He courageously cared for victims of the plague, offering both spiritual and practical assistance to the sick and dying.
  3. He founded the Congregation of Jesus and Mary—the Eudists—in 1643 to help form holy and well-prepared diocesan priests.
  4. He helped establish the liturgical devotion to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. In fact, he promoted the first officially authorized feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
  5. He preached more than 100 parish missions and was canonized in 1925 by Pope Pius XI. His feast day is celebrated on August 19.

St. John Eudes, pray that our hearts may be formed by the love of Jesus and Mary!
